2009 AUSTRALIAN OPEN
FINAL
SERENA WILLIAMS v JUSTINE HENIN
6-4,3-6,6-2

Serena Williams defeated Belgian star
Justine Henin to win her fifth Australian Open.
Williams, 28, defended her 2009 Australian title against Henin, winning in three
sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
She lost the Open in 2008 but won in each previous odd-numbered year since 2003,
taking home the 2003, 2005 and 2007 titles in Australia.
Justine made a remarkable comeback run in her 2nd tournament beack since her
comeback from retirement.
Henin had retired from tennis after
the 2008 Australian Open while holding the # 1 ranking.
All along her coaches tempered the enthusiasm of her chances to win the
tournament, but it was hard to tell if they were just using mental tactics to
fuel her run.
But the critique appeared spot
on and her coaches said the changes made to her technique will need more time
before winning championships again.
Serena served accurately and powerfully to keep the pressure on Henin.
The match could have swung either way, but Serena again showed her championship mettle by coming through on the big points.
The match not only showed Serena's greatness, but it also highlighted how much the tennis world benefits from having Justine's stylish and athletic
game back on the court!
