2010 AUSTRALIAN OPEN

FINAL

                   ROGER FEDERER        v       ANDY MURRAY

    6-4,6-3,7-6

Roger Federer defeated Andy Murray for his fourth Australian Open title, extending the British men’s drought in Grand Slam singles championships into a 74th year.
Federer won the lengthy third-set tiebreaker on his third match point after fending off five set points for Murray.

He clinched the match in 2 hours, 41 minutes when Murray netted a backhand.

Murray had been playing extraordinary tennis throughout the tournament so many had believed it was his time to take the title.

But Federer was confident, almost cocky, entering the match but all of his predictions came true.  Murray did appear slightly nervous while

Federer's game was as sharp as ever.  Murray tried to go backhand to backhand to force errors from Roger's weaker side, but the errors never

came. Instead Federer used his variety of shots - flat, slice, topspin, dropshot, to move Murray off the baseline and dictate the points.  Murray

tried to hit harder as the match went on, but his 1st serve was off the entire day which really forced him to press the entire match.

Federer said the head to head that was 4-6 in Murray's favor didn't matter because Federer wasn't at his best for most of those matches (after

his mononucleosis).  On this night Federer proved that his game is back to top form and that any challengers must play the tennis of their lives to

beat him. Federer now has 16 grand slam championship trophies!!!
