2010 NY OPEN
2nd Round
JANKO TIPSAREVIC v ANDY RODDICK
3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6

US ninth seed Andy Roddick made a shocking second-round exit from the NY Open on Wednesday with Serbia's 44th-ranked Janko Tipsarevic firing 66 winners.
This match will probably be remembered most for Andy Roddick's meltdown after being called for a footfault that was reminscent of Serena Williams' similar tirade the previous year.
"First serve was huge," Tipsarevic
said. "Big first serve percentage helped me win."
After splitting the first two sets, Roddick fell behind in the third but
gathered energy after a foot fault controversy.
With Roddick serving down 2-5 in the third set, a line judge called a foot fault
that television replays showed was correct.
But when Roddick asked her which foot he committed the violation with, she
mistakenly said the right, giving Roddick something to verbally complain about
into the next set.
However, the real story (and the real reason for Roddick's frustration) was the absolutely amazing shotmaking by Tipsarevic.
The Serb was able to keep pace with Roddick by serving 16 aces to the Andy's 17. From the baseline though was the real difference.
Tipseravic can be streaky, but when he is playing well he can redirect shots down the line better than anybody.
Roddick was helpless as Tipsarevic cracked winner after winner past him all match long.
After the match, Roddick claimed he was waiting for Janko's risky strategy to backfire against him.
But Tipsarevic continued to gain confidence and never faltered.
Tipsarevic cooly responded after the match that he wasn't playing high risk tennis... he was just playing good tennis!
