2007 MONTREAL MASTERS
3rd Round
RAFAEL NADAL v PAUL-HENRI MATHIEU
6-3, 3-6, 2-6

Paul-Henri Mathieu is enjoying his career best ranking of 23, so it was clear
that Rafael Nadal was in for a real test when he faced the Frenchman in the
third round of the Rogers Masters in Montreal. That the recent Gstaad winner
would have the match for the taking early in the second set was less expected.
Nadal was not playing his best tennis early but summoned up his best tennis
later in the match on the important points. .
The second set showed some amazing tennis by both players, showing off their
shotmaking and scrambling abilities. Nadal eventually passed Mathieu at the net
before finishing off an easy putaway. Nadal let out a big VAMOS and from that
point on, his play was more aggressive and too much for the Frenchman.
