6-3, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1
4th Round
JAMES BLAKE v TOMAS BERDYCH
6-4, 6-3, 6-1

-------------------------------- NADAL v YOUZHNY *
Rafael Nadal was upset on Wednesday in the U.S. Open quarterfinals by 54th-ranked Mikhail Youzhny of Russia. Rafa's defeat ended hopes for the highly anticipated third straight meeting of Nadal against Roger Federer in the final of a Grand Slam as had happened at the French and Wimbledon.
Youzhny had impressive results prior to this meeting against the #2 player in the world, and he backed it up by outplaying Nadal throughout the match. Youzhny displayed his powerful backhand and his willingness to go for his shots. Youzhny ended up with twice as many winners as Nadal.

--------------------------------- BLAKE v BERDYCH *
Blake never dropped a
serve during the match, despite being held to 15 break points, and now improves
his record against Berdych to 2-0.
The imposing Czech used a powerful serve and imposing ground strokes to kept the
match on serve until late in the first set when Blake finally broke. Blake was
helped out by the rowdy “J-Block” which roared with every shot.
"My serve felt great all day and somehow I fought off all those break points,"
Blake said.
* play switches back and forth between both matches, neither is complete.
