2006 NASDAQ-100 OPEN
Final
SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA v MARIA SHARAPOVA
6-4, 6-3

Former U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova earned her first tournament title in 18 months by beating Maria Sharapova 6-4, 6-3
Saturday to win the Nasdaq-100 Open.
Seeded 12th, Kuznetsova won the all-Russian final using superior weapons on the
day. Svetlana had both her serve and forehand working, repeatedly driving
Sharapova into a corner and then smacking a winner into the open court.
Kuznetsova was playing her dominating, aggressive style of tennis. She was
able to step inside the baseline and dictate play and push the
taller Sharapova around the court. Kuznetsova's forehand was especially viscious as she was hitting hard, fast, and with pinpoint accuracy.
An impressive win that moves Kuznetsova back into the top 10 and puts her back in contention for more major titles if she continues this
high level of play.
