2003 MASTERS CUP
ROGER FEDERER v ANDRE AGASSI
6-7 6-3 7-6
WOW!!! Federer fought a titanic battle with Andre Agassi
TDW has seen a lot of Federer v Agassi matches, and this one is, by far the most tantalizing. Andre was in amazing form, after resting
for 2 months and concentrating on his fitness and weight training. Agassi's groundstrokes were blistering off the court. His beautiful backhand
was the most powerful
TDW has ever seen.
The shot making from Federer was awe-inspiring, as TDW has to put the slow-motion playback on at least 10 times to even comprehend
the magnificent shots the Swiss player made. Swinging forehand volleys from the baseline multiple times??? Are you kidding me Roger?
Almost every point makes you say.. NO WAY!!!!
Wimbledon champion Roger Federer came from a set down and saved two match points to end Andre Agassi's hopes of a winning return
to tennis at the
Federer served 20 aces on the way to his first victory over the eight-time Grand Slam winner.
The Swiss won the match 6-7 (3/7) 6-3 7-6 (9/7).
Agassi was playing for the first time in two months after joining wife Steffi Graf for the birth of their daughter Jaz last month.
Federer's win means he keeps a slim chance to win the year-end world number one ranking, that Roddick would end up with for 2004.
Agassi had lost only one of nine sets in his three prior meetings with Federer, although the two had not played since last year's Miami final.
Agassi's first loss to the rising Swiss star... and this is another moment in the ascendancy of one of the game's greatest players.
