2002 – World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt battled Juan Carlos Ferrero for four hours and five sets, but successfully defended his title at the year-end ATP Masters Cup in Shanghai, China

The 21-year-old, who had secured his world No.1 title for the second consecutive year during the round-robin stage,

has claimed five singles titles in 2002 and tied Andre Agassi for the most titles won this season.
"I feel very excited to win the title. This is a real tough fight," said Hewitt, the newly crowned champion.
